If you have come here, you've found searching this database too hard. So here is some more information that we hope will help you find what you are looking for.

First off, if you are wondering "What's a database anyhow?" we want you to know that it is just an organized collection of information, much like a phone book. Our database contains a list of over 500 groups and individuals who want the Gay and Lesbian community of New Hampshire to know about them.

The first field on our search page is a place where you can type in an organization name, or even part of a name to find information about a particular group that you may already be familiar with. Some acronyms do not work and at least one word of the name must be entered.

These listings are all organized into resource categories, such as bars, women's groups, lawyers, crisis phone lines, religious organizations etc. When you are on the search page, you can hold your mouse button down over the 'category of resource' button and click on one of these 'resource types' and it will stick. Then all you need to do is click the 'start search' button to see an alphabetized list of all the groups we have in that category.

If you only want to see those folks who wanted us to identify them as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered (GLBT), then you should type "yes" into the next spot. Even folks who might well be gay, lesbian or bisexual, but who chose not to have us 'label' them as such, will not be returned on a "yes" search.

In the description area, you can type a word or two that you think would be in the fifty word description of the group you seek. If you are looking for a gay parents group you might try 'kids' or 'children' or 'parents.'

The search is an "and" type search, which means that if you select a specific category and also that they be 'gay identified,' you will get only resources that conform to both your criteria, that is, a list of all the resources in the category you selected who told us to identify them as GLB or T. If you enter something in all the fields you will so limit your search that you will likely find nothing.

You always do the actual searching by pressing the start search button. Hitting 'enter' or 'return' on your computer often does not work. You can put something in each, or in only one or two of the four places just described. There is also a button that says "find all." This will return you a list of all 500 resources alphabetized by category.

After you have done your search, you will see a list of all the resources that fit your criteria. Because these lists can be rather long, we did not put every detail about each resource on this page. To see the complete information on any individual resource you must click on their name on the search results page. This will produce a page with our complete listing info about the resource whose name you just clicked. So even when you know the name of the specific group you want info about, you get the full listing on that group by first searching on the name, and then clicking on the name again on the search results page.

We hope you are able to find what you want on these pages. Please email us with your praise, your scorn and your questions. If these pages don't work for you, then they don't work for us either. Our mission is to get you the information you want, so please let us know!
